Mark Hall Academy Ofsted Report 2025
Posted: 19th May 2025INSPECTORS have recognised a local academy’s hard work at improving their school.
Mark Hall Academy, in Harlow, Essex, joined BMAT Education in January 2021 after being graded as ‘Inadequate’ by Ofsted in 2020. Since then, staff within the academy and the trust have worked tirelessly to improve all aspects of the school.
The report highlights strides made in fostering positive behaviour, supporting pupils’ personal development, and strengthening the school’s pastoral care since the last inspection. It also cites the recent improvements made to the curriculum and training provided to staff.
Matt Carter, Headteacher at Mark Hall Academy thanked parents and carers for their support: “I am incredibly proud of our staff and pupils for the dedication they show every day. We remain determined to keep improving for the benefit of our school community.”
Helena Mills CBE, CEO, BMAT Education said she was focused in ensuring that every child in the local community receives the education they deserve: "I see first-hand the unwavering dedication of the staff and the positive impact this has on pupils’ wellbeing, confidence, and learning. I am pleased that these strengths were recognised in the recent Ofsted report, particularly the improvements in behaviour, personal development, and the care provided for pupils.
We also acknowledge the areas identified for further improvement, and I will continue to work closely with our Governors and fellow educational specialist leaders to provide the right balance of support and challenge. We remain fully committed to helping the school move forward and deliver on its vision for excellence."
Chris Vince, MP for Harlow, extended his congratulations to the community at Mark Hall Academy following the Ofsted result: “The comments made in the report reflect the school’s deep commitment to its values of determination, confidence, and respect, which are clearly being instilled in its young people every day.
The report celebrates many successes, and I am particularly pleased to see recognition of the school's work to revise the curriculum, ensuring it is broad, balanced, and reflective of pupils’ needs. It is also encouraging to see that a love of reading is being actively promoted and that pupils clearly value the rich and meaningful experiences the school offers.
This is a testament to the dedication of the whole school community, and I look forward to seeing Mark Hall continue to build on these strengths.”
